Synopsis
The project involved an identical re-build of the existing school, which had been previously demolished. New and up-to-date technologies refreshed the M&E design, in line with current building regulations. The 2000m2 school is a single storey building which includes classrooms for pupils from nursery to year 6, a learning resource centre, a studio, SEN (science/food tech room), offices, group rooms and a multi-purpose main hall.
Anderson Green was responsible for both the RIBA Stage 3 and Stage 4b detailed 3D design and co-ordination including the provision of Part L compliance calculations, thermal model and daylight assessment. The project was delivered using the latest BIM technology.
Best in Class
The M&E services within the school were to be highly efficient and low energy. All classrooms were naturally ventilated with low and high level openable windows, whilst local heat recovery units served internal offices and group rooms. Underfloor heating was used throughout and presence detectors helped reduce the energy required for the fully dimmable LED lighting.
The M&E services within the main reception/LRC area are distributed within a suspended services corridor, creating a unique feature as you enter the school.
